Working together to create a fairer and more equal world
In September 2017, we partnered with UN Women to become a HeForShe Champion and make a tangible difference to gender diversity. We committed to invest US$2 million in programmes that support women and girls in our partner communities. We also committed to achieving parity in our leadership appointment rate by 2020 and to ensure that our marketing campaigns promoted gender equality.
Extending our commitment
Our colleagues across the world and at every level of leadership united behind these commitments and driven by their energy, we reached our goals by the end of 2020. In March 2021, we extended our partnership with UN Women for a further five years, joining the HeForShe Alliance and expanding our commitments as part of our Building Forever strategy. This included committing to increase the representation of women in technical roles and leadership within De Beers, and promoting a culture that enables our journey to achieving gender parity.
We are proud to currently be in the third phase of our partnership with UN Women after another extension. We have now committed to invest a further US$3 million on top of the US$5 million previously invested and to expand our rebranded EntreprenHER programme, working towards our goal of supporting 10,000 women entrepreneurs.
