Quantum sensors represent a bold new technology that can unlock new opportunities to improve the lives of people around the world, in the fields of medical technology, navigation, natural resource exploration and more.

To capture the enormous potential of this technology, Element Six and Bosch have established a new joint venture, to be known as Bosch Quantum Sensing, to develop and scale produce advanced synthetic diamond-enabled quantum sensors. Bosch Quantum Sensing uses bespoke engineered synthetic diamonds, which can detect minute fluctuations in the smallest of magnetic fields. The partnership represents a significant step forward in the application of synthetic diamond technology in quantum sensors.

How could quantum sensors revolutionise our world?

Navigation and natural resource exploration

  • Quantum sensors can measure magnetic fields with exceptional sensitivity, improving the precision of in-air navigation, as well as enabling more efficient natural resource exploration.

Healthcare

  • By improving the accuracy of MCG (magnetocardiography), quantum sensors could enable early detection of serious heart conditions.

Opening up synthetic diamond-enabled quantum sensor technology

Bosch Quantum Sensing aims to produce advanced quantum sensors on an industrial scale. It combines Element Six’s quantum-grade synthetic diamonds with Bosch's expertise as a leading global supplier of technology and services. Eventually, the aim is to create quantum sensors so small they can be integrated into individual chips, supporting innovative applications in multi-billion-dollar markets.

Projects like this form a key part of driving the Origins strategy: to develop and produce the world’s most advanced synthetic diamond technology solutions for industrial applications.

Using synthetic diamonds to improve accuracy and reliability

Synthetic diamonds are a key component of Bosch quantum sensors. These diamonds enable the quantum sensor to detect even the faintest magnetic fields, setting new standards for precision and efficiency, while ensuring portability and scalability.

“By integrating our synthetic diamond technology with Bosch’s engineering excellence, we’re pushing the limits of what’s possible,” says Siobhán Duffy, CEO of Element Six. “This will enable new opportunities – for example by improving the accuracy of MCG (magnetocardiography) to detect even the most subtle signs of serious heart conditions. Or by ensuring reliable positioning for GPS navigation systems even in environments vulnerable to signal disruption.”
