On Friday May 29, the stories of the North will be celebrated during the De Beers Gala Readings.

The event is in conjunction with the NorthWords Writers’ Festival happening in Yellowknife and is a celebrating of 10 years of partnership between De Beers and NorthWords NWT. De Beers and NorthWords share a passion for promoting literacy and getting Northern and Aboriginal stories written, read, and heard, and De Beers is proud to once again be a premier sponsor of the festival.

“De Beers recognizes the tremendous opportunities created for both individuals and communities when strong literacy skills are in place,” said De Beers Canada COO Glen Koropchuk. “Our De Beers Books in Homes program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 enhances reading fundamentals, while the NorthWords Festival provides new and experienced writers in the NWT the chance to create stories of their own and in doing so preserve and share their rich culture.”

The Gala Readings will be held at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife beginning at 7:30 p.m. and will include a look back at the last decade of NorthWords, readings from the guest authors of the Festival and the presentation of the annual NorthWords Prize among others. There is no charge for the event, and all are welcome to attend.

Refreshments and hors- d’oeuvre will be provided.
