Eleven employees from De Beers Victor Mine were recognized with a number of awards from the Porcupine Northeastern Ontario Mines Safety Group on March 24, 2016 at an event held in Timmins, Ontario.
Ten supervisors from Mining Ops, Material Management & Logistics, Site Services, Maintenance, Mobile Maintenance and the Process Plant had crews that combined for an incredible 148,000 hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI). The De Beers Victor Mine has not experienced an LTI since July 2014.
“Each of these individuals have provided the important leadership for their respective teams that is critical to creating and maintaining the outstanding safety culture here at Victor Mine,” said General Manager James Kirby. “They have inspired their teams who proudly share these awards.

Also on the podium was Victor Mine Ore Extraction Manager Brian Kilbride, who received the prestigious Jim Cluff Award for 2015 for exemplary workplace safety. Kilbride has been a key member of the Victor team since the construction phase and has guided the Mining Ops throughout the life of the mine.
“Brian’s commitment and support to proper training, coaching and promotion of high standards has continually reduced the frequency of the occurrence of incidents involving employees, equipment and the environment.” said Kirby. “As an original team member, everyone from a new employee to his peers on the senior management team have seen Brian lead by example, which has been a key to his success.”
