The Northern Centre for Advanced Technology (NORCAT), a private, non-profit organization that provides health and safety training and development, captured the De Beers Canada Indigenous Partnership Award on May 10 during the 2018 NOVA Business Excellence Awards held in Timmins, Ontario.
The De Beers Canada Indigenous Partnership Award recognizes a business that demonstrates outstanding achievements in Indigenous relations, including economic development, employment and training, and Indigenous community support.
“De Beers Canada is very pleased to be presenting this award to NORCAT,” said Sherri Lapointe, Superintendent of Indigenous Affairs and Sustainability. “We work closely with them at Victor Mine and have seen firsthand the impact they make on the next generation of mining professionals in Northern Ontario.”
One of 16 winners from a record-breaking 160 nominations submitted this year, NORCAT was founded in 1995. The NORCAT Centre is located in Sudbury, Ontario and Centre stands at approximately 70,000 square feet. It is home to a health and safety training and development centre, entrepreneurial and innovation services, and an incubator and event centre. NORCAT opened their Timmins office in 2014.
“We are truly honoured to be recognized for this award as it not only demonstrates our commitment to working with First Nations across Canada, but also exemplifies our dedication to develop meaningful partnerships to deliver our mandate.” says NORCAT Manager, Ken Stewart. “I want to thank the community of Timmins, the Aboriginal Women in Mining, De Beers, and the organizers and judges for this wonderful recognition”.
This was the 16th annual Nova Business Excellence Awards, which celebrates the vibrant business community in Timmins. De Beers Canada has been proud to sponsor the awards since the company opened its Timmins office more than a decade ago.
