De Beers statement on Snap Lake Mine water licence
De Beers statement on Snap Lake Mine water licence
13 Mar 2015

De Beers thanks the Mackenzie Valley Land & Water Board members and staff, government and regulatory agencies and community participants who took part in the Public Hearing on Snap Lake Mine’s water licence amendment on March 11 and 12, 2015. We appreciate the comments from all participants over the past two days.

As we noted at the outset of the public hearing, De Beers is committed to continuing to work with communities and governments in the NWT because we share a common goal – the protection of the environment and the continued, sustainable operation of Snap Lake Mine.

The Snap Lake Mine water licence amendment has been subject to various levels of regulatory review. De Beers’ proposal is protective of the aquatic ecosystem and is operationally achievable.

We look forward to the Board’s decision so that the Mine can continue to move forward in a sustainable way.
