A Forevermark diamond from De Beers Victor Mine in Northern Ontario was the top prize of a raffle during an event which raised $210,000 towards healthcare equipment for the Timmins and District Hospital.

The 18th Annual Spring Gala hosted by the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation took place on April 30 and drew in 275 people. The night featured food, wine and dessert as well as a silent auction and a lottery raffle for 11 prizes valued at $50,000. The centrepiece of the lottery was a 1.07 carat Ideal Square Forevermark diamond from Victor Mine valued at $15,000.

“De Beers is proud to once again support the Timmins and District Hospital through the donation of an exquisite and rare Forevermark diamond mined from our very own Victor Mine,” said James Kirby, Victor Mine General Manager. “The Timmins and District Hospital provides crucial care to our community, employees, friends and family and we are pleased to continue the partnership we’ve enjoyed since 2008.”

The lottery alone raised more than $90,000.

Sylvia Reid, a local Timmins business owner, was the winner of the Forevermark diamond which was presented to her by Foundation Executive Director Janna Burke.

All of the $210,000 raised during the event will go to support a hospital wide IV pump replacement program at the Timmins and District Hospital.

Information on IV Pump Replacement

The replacement of every IV (intravenous infusion therapy) pump at Timmins and District Hospital is a $560,000 project to upgrade a tool used daily to treat patients.

The Infusion Pump Replacement Program at TADH affects all clinical, inpatient and outpatient units including Critical Care (ICU), Surgical, Medical, Pediatric/Neonatal, Maternity, Oncology, Emergency, Dialysis and Medical Daycare.  149 smart pumps, including software, at a cost of $4,500 per pump are required to complete this hospital-wide IV pump renewal project.

Smart pump technology combines safeguards that include a list of high-alert medications, soft and hard dosage limits and a drug library that is tailored by our nursing and pharmacy team.  It is wireless, sleek and very safe.
