The NorthWords Writers’ Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2015 and De Beers is proud to have been part of this important literary event in Canada’s Northwest Territories since 2006.
Dedicated to Northern and Aboriginal writing, it is NorthWords’ mission to have these stories read, written and heard, in the North, throughout Canada, and beyond. The festival has grown since it began ten years ago and De Beers Canada is pleased to once again be a premier sponsor.
“De Beers recognizes the tremendous opportunities created for both individuals and communities when strong literacy skills are in place,” said De Beers Canada COO Glen Koropchuk. “Our De Beers Books in Homes program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 enhances reading fundamentals, while the NorthWords Festival provides new and experienced writers in the NWT the chance to create stories of their own and in doing so preserve and share their rich culture.”
"NorthWords is grateful for all of the support that De Beers has provided over the years,” said NorthWords President Cara Loverock-Bryant. “We are so thrilled to be celebrating ten years of our annual festival and it is thanks to sponsors like De Beers that we have been able to reach this milestone."
As part of the festival celebration, De Beers is hosting the Gala Readings on Friday, May 29th at the Explorer Hotel, starting at 7:30 p.m. The Gala will include a look back at the last 10 years of NorthWords, readings from the guest authors of the Writers Festival, and the presentation of the NorthWords Prize among other events.
There is no charge and all are welcome to attend.
