At De Beers, we believe in supporting sustainable development in the areas near our operations with programs that build skills development, training and literacy. 

Some programs like Books in Homes we run ourselves, and some programs with a wider reach like ABC Life Literacy Canada, we offer our financial support. 

With the Books in Homes program, we are fueling the imagination of children with books and are passing along the love of reading and literacy to the next generation. Through the hard work of dozens of De Beers’ employees, thousands of books have been received by hundreds of children in the eight communities near our mines in northern Canada at a cost of more than $1.3 million.

Our support of ABC Life Literacy initatives has a wider scope.  They have several programs to improve adult literacy, math and writing skills across Canada.  Their LEARN tool can locate an adult learning centre throughout most of Canada.
