With wind chills hovering at -30 degree Celsius and wind speeds of 40 km/hr, Steve Thomas, De Beers Canada Chief Financial Officer, ran 42 km of the ice road in northern Ontario on Wednesday March 11 to support Mushkegowuk Council’s inquiry into youth suicide in the region.

Steve wanted to bring awareness to this inquiry not only through financial support coming from De Beers and generous contributions from our business partners but also on a personal level. “This was by far the most challenging marathon that I’ve ever run,” said Steve, “but I wanted to do it because it would raise funds and build awareness for the work the Mushkegowuk Council is doing to prevent youth suicide in the James Bay region.”

Those wishing to support the run can do so through the Mushkegowuk Youth Fund. Donations can be made through the RBC Timmins Branch 05112, account #1011121.
