De Beers Group is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2023 Scholarships for Canadian Women in STEM.
Each of the 10 recipients will receive a CAD$4,500 scholarship to support their studies in fields that range from neuroscience, veterinary medicine and environmental engineering. Recipients are from the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta and Northern Ontario.
Moses Madondo, Managing Director of De Beers Group Managed Operations, said: “It is inspiring to see that all of our recipients share a common goal of using their education to give back to their home communities. Through this scholarship program, we're not just championing Canadian women in STEM but also fostering community-level growth and development.

Since De Beers launched the STEM scholarship program in Canada in 2018, 104 scholarships have been awarded to Canadian women. This has been made possible through collaboration with UN Women, and partnerships with institutions like the University of Waterloo, the University of Calgary, and Scholarships Canada.
The scholarship program is one of several programs that underpins the Advancing Equal Opportunity Pillar of De Beers’ Building Forever initiative. Launched in 2020, the company has set the goal of engaging 5,000 women and girls in STEM by 2025. In Canada, that has included the STEM scholarships, STEM summer camps for teenaged girls, women in mining luncheons, and launch of the WomEng program in Canada.
De Beers employs more than 600 people in Canada. It is the operator of the joint venture Gahcho Kué mine in the Northwest Territories (NWT), is actively closing Snap Lake mine in the NWT and Victor mine in northern Ontario, has an exploration team based in Canada, and is advancing the Chidliak Project to establish a technologically advanced diamond mine on Baffin Island using FutureSmart Mining™ principles.
