Gahcho Kué Mine joint venture partners De Beers Group and Mountain Province Diamonds are partnering with The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) to provide Baby Bundles to the parent/caregiver of each newborn in the NWT over the next year.

The program was officially launched in Yellowknife, NT on October 21. CLICK HERE to read a copy of the media release from the GNWT Department of Health and Social Services (HSS).

The bundles contain more than 35 items worth approximately $650 for newborns and parents such as Vitamin D drops, diapers and a diaper bag, baby clothes, a resource package, children’s books and more.

The Baby Bundle Program is part of Gahcho Kué’s Building Forever initiative, which aims to create a positive and sustainable impact in local communities. To find out more about Building Forever, CLICK HERE.

Said Kimberly Balsillie, the De Beers Group social performance specialist who worked with HSS to develop the program, said: “The first few days, months and years of a child’s life are important as they lay the foundation for early childhood development. Through this program families are provided with the tools they need to succeed, supporting strong families and increasing community resilience.”

In keeping with the mine’s commitment to working with NWT businesses, the bundles were sourced through Boreal Kids Co. a small business based in Yellowknife specialising in preloved & new baby, kids, maternity and women’s clothing, footwear, and accessories.

Lyric Sandhals and Amy Allan owners of Boreal Kids Co said: “We are extremely happy to have had the opportunity to work with Gahcho Kué Mine and the GNWT on a program that will bring benefits to families throughout the NWT.”

Baby Bundles will be available to parents and caregivers in The Northwest Territories from October 21st 2022.  For more information, please visit https://www.hss.gov.nt.ca/en/services/baby-bundle
