De Beers Group, the world’s leading diamond company, is like no other.  Diamond experts around the world in Botswana, South Africa, India, Belgium and the United Kingdom use technology, innovation and expertise to keep the industry moving forward.

The Future of Mining

In South Africa, De Beers Group has been leading the way in diamond mining technology for more than 35 years. We use creative new ideas, cutting-edge technology and years of expertise to make the most of our diamond mines – extending their lives and making them more efficient.

That means developing specialist systems, techniques and diamond machining technology that can automate mining processes, monitor process and equipment performance remotely, and facilitate near-shore recovery.

World-leading Technology

In the United Kingdom, we run the most advanced diamond research and technological development centre in the world.

Our scientists and engineers – specialists in electronics, design, mechanics and imaging technology – develop new methods for verifying and sorting diamonds that are used across all of our operations. They also produce technology that scans diamonds to detect any synthetic materials and treatments.

Automated Efficiency

We have been using diamond machining technology and automated systems to enhance the way we sort our diamonds since 1972. Today, our machines provide unparalleled efficiency, flexibility and consistency. Using automation helps us to simplify and speed up our processes; some of our machines operate at speeds of eight diamonds per second to produce assortments in categories of size, shape, colour and clarity.
