Sustainability and ethics

As enduring symbols of strength, love and connection, diamonds reflect the world’s natural beauty. They can also support a blueprint for our sustainable future – where safety, livelihoods and the environment are carefully nurtured and protected.

At De Beers Group, we treasure the communities where we work. We’re committed to ‘Building Forever’ – creating a positive, lasting legacy that will endure beyond our last diamond’s recovery.

Thanks to tools such as Tracr, our leading Best Practices Principles and guided by a robust Code of Ethics, each De Beers diamond has a transparent and unbreakable connection to the countries where they are recovered and the good community work they support.

The importance of diamond provenance

Provenance

Each diamond’s journey can be traced back more than three billion years to its origin deep inside the Earth. Thanks to our world-leading Tracr blockchain technology, De Beers Group can document each diamond through the diamond pipeline to each treasured piece of jewellery – underpinning our commitment to ethical sourcing. We recognise that in recovering diamonds we must ensure their enduring value flows back to the people and communities where we work. Join us on our journey to explore and connect to the legacy of diamonds.
