The demand for traceability in the diamond industry has never been more pressing. Increasingly, consumers want reassurance that their diamonds are ethically sourced and responsibly mined. Shifting geo-political events and changing import restrictions on diamonds of different origins continue to highlight the need for comprehensive, industry-wide diamond traceability.
Tracr: our industry-leading solution
We launched Tracr in 2018 and it has evolved into a robust, industry-leading solution, which enables the recording of a diamond's journey from mine to market. Tracr uses blockchain technology to enable users to provide an unalterable record of a diamond's provenance.
The platform now has over three million diamonds registered at source. Each diamond is assigned a unique digital identity, capturing critical attributes such as carat weight, colour, clarity and cut. This identity accompanies a diamond on the Tracr platform providing a transparent and tamper-proof history that can be accessed once a diamond has been unlocked on the platform.
Setting new standards with country-of-origin data
One of Tracr's most impressive advances is its ability to support single country-of-origin data. As of 2025, all diamonds over one carat registered on Tracr can be traced in this way. This represents a significant leap forward in traceability standards, empowering consumers to connect with the origin story of their diamonds.
Driving innovation through collaboration
Tracr is now working with Sarine, a leader in diamond scanning and evaluation technologies, to enhance diamond source verification. By combining Tracr's blockchain infrastructure and Sarine's advanced scanning solutions, Tracr can now offer the ability to verify a diamond’s journey using verifiable diamond scanning information, from a producer’s rough supply to a manufacturer’s polished production. Adding this objective verification capability to Tracr’s algorithmic matching allows Tracr to offer enhanced provenance assurance for customers, diamond brands and consumers.
