South african designer to create setting for forevermark’s two millionth diamond
South african designer to create setting for forevermark’s two millionth diamond
25 May 2017

De Beers Group today announced that emerging South African designer, Louise Kriek (pictured above), will work on the design for Forevermark’s milestone two millionth diamond under the Forevermark design team, as part of a three-month internship in Milan, Italy.

The design will become part of Forevermark’s exclusive red carpet collection, to be worn by celebrities at major events and award ceremonies around the world.

Ms Kriek, from the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, was the 2015 runner-up of the De Beers Group-sponsored Shining Light Awards.

The Shining Light Awards is a prestigious jewellery design competition that showcases young talent from Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.

Ms Kriek said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to work with Forevermark on the design for this milestone two millionth diamond, in one of the leading fashion capitals of the world.

“To think that a piece of jewellery I’ve helped create could be showcased on the red carpet on a global stage is a demonstration of just how important the Shining Light Awards are in helping to build the careers of emerging jewellery designers from southern Africa.”

Stephen Lussier, CEO of Forevermark, said: “We are delighted to give up-and-coming designers such as Louise opportunities to showcase their talent and creativity through designing pieces for our collections.

“The Shining Light Awards support Forevermark’s commitment to ensuring our diamonds make a positive impact and support the countries they are mined from.

“We trace the journey of every Forevermark diamond, ensuring strict business, environmental and social standards are met at every step. The continued strong growth of our brand is a reflection of the rising demand from consumers who want certainty that their diamonds not only reflect the highest standards of beauty, but also come with the guarantee of being responsibly sourced.”

The milestone follows the announcement in February of Forevermark being available in more than 2,000 retail outlets worldwide.

Forevermark was launched in 2008 with the promise of diamonds that are beautiful, rare and responsibly sourced. Less than one per cent of the world’s diamonds are eligible to become Forevermark.

Each Forevermark diamond is inscribed with the Forevermark icon and a unique identification number. Invisible to the naked eye, the inscription is the Forevermark promise of beauty, rarity and responsible sourcing.

The two millionth diamond bears a unique ‘2,000,000’ inscription.
