State-of-the-art audio and visual technology designed and installed in the De Beers Canada Operational Support Centre in Calgary has won Teatrx, a Calgary-based company, the 2017 best small office Commercial Integrator Award to be awarded at the InfoComm annual Audio-Visual Awards Convention in Orlando, Florida.
Officially opened in July 2016 to replace the former head office in Toronto, the De Beers Canada Operational Support Centre required innovative technology solutions to support three remote mine locations, including two on the edge of the Arctic Circle, as well as other facilities across the country.
Teatrx was selected by De Beers at the beginning of the office construction and design phase to collaborate on developing unique digital solutions that met the technical requirements of the project such as wireless connectivity for all employees and visitors to the 25,000 square foot open-office concept, mobile work spaces to allow free movement for instant group collaboration, and seamless access to display screens for all devices from laptops to tablets to mobile phones.
De Beers Canada Chief Executive Officer Kim Truter says the Operational Support Centre in Calgary has drawn praise from visitors from around the world since opening last year. “Our goal was to use the latest technology to set a new standard for flexible office collaboration and external multi-site connectivity with our Operational Support Centre and Teatrx was able to deliver our vision,” said Truter. “Our colleagues and guests from here in Canada and across our global company that have visited have all remarked how the Centre combines technology, employee support and De Beers’ world-class branding to make it a creative and effective work environment.”
With mines running 24-hours a day, the transition to the new Calgary Operational Support Centre had to be seamless and also accommodate the movement of dozens of staff from around the country to Calgary for the official opening deadline.
“Alignment with the De Beers vision was very important to us and the De Beers project was exactly what Teatrx specializes in, digital transformation,” said Teatrx President Scott Muhlbeier. “Integrating a unique solution required collaboration with various departments, communication with stakeholders and our most important guiding principles; transparency and visibility. We are excited about the workspace of the future and De Beers has shown the kind of forward-looking leadership and readiness required to compete in the digital age. We are proud to be their trusted partner.”
The De Beers Canada Operational Support Centre is located in the Calgary International Airport Corporate Centre and supports the Victor Mine in northern Ontario as well as Gahcho Kué Mine and Snap Lake Mine in the Northwest Territories as well as exploration and other activities in Canada.
De Beers Canada is currently installing microwave technology at both Gahcho Kué and Victor mines to enhance the connectivity between the mines and the Operational Support Centre, which will build on the systems and provide live feeds and the ability to access emerging communications platforms.
