De Beers Canada and our employees are showing care for the communities where we work this holiday season.

The company provided more than $37,000 toward Christmas community events, hampers for families in need and other holiday programs in our First Nations partner communities in the NWT. In Northern Ontario, De Beers Canada purchased turkeys and hams for the Moose Cree First Nation’s traditional Christmas feast.

In Calgary, home to our operational support centre, 14 members of our Human Resources team volunteered on December 18 at Made by Momma – a non-profit organization which provides prepared meals and other essentials to more than 100 Calgarian families in need. In three hours, they prepared 300 meals which will support a number of families for two weeks. Calgary office colleagues also support the initiative, donating non-perishable food items, sanitary supplies, baby supplies and more..

In Sudbury, Ont., employees with our Exploration division collected blankets and winter clothing over the course of 2018 which were donated to the Coalition against Poverty earlier this month. The items will be distributed at warming shelters for Sudbury’s homeless population and at Out of the Cold dinners in downtown Sudbury.

The employees also collect cases of water for donation through the Coalition during the hot summer months, which are distributed to the homeless.

In Yellowknife, employees raised more than $4,500 for the NWT SPCA during a silent auction of donated items during their annual Christmas party. To date, more than $11,000 has been raised for the NWT SPCA from auctions at their Christmas parties since 2016.
