De Beers wins top award for technology

10 Dec 2013

At the annual Technology Top 100 award ceremony held in South Africa last evening, The De Beers Group of Companies was presented with the ‘Minister’s Award for Sustainable Performance’ in the Large Enterprise Category.

The Technology Top 100 competition is organised by the South African Department of Science & Technology in conjunction with the Da Vinci Institute, with participation from organisations across South Africa. The entrants were judged by a panel of independent adjudicators from prominent technical and business organisations such as PWC, Sasol, ABSA corporate and Investment Bank and Sappi. In the finalist category De Beers’ competitors were major South African technology organisations including Mintek, ABSA and Altech UEC.

Faried Sallie, Head of Technologies for De Beers Group, said “This accolade is a deserving recognition of the dedication from everyone at our Technologies division, as we continue to push the boundaries of innovation for the benefit of all the De Beers Group of Companies.”

Referring to the Minister’s Award, the Department of Science & Technology said “This is the ultimate measure. These companies demonstrate a holistic approach to managing their operations, and are a role model that all South African companies, in both the private and public sectors, should strive towards.”
