Section Manager of Mining, South Africa
I am a local boy who has worked his way up to leading a section of 408 employees. My interview for a De Beers scholarship was a turning point for me. I spent three days practising my interview technique in front of a rusty mirror. Ten years’ later, my career has rocketed. I have climbed from being a trainee mining engineer to a senior management position. I am now responsible for overseeing all loading, hauling and construction activities as well as maintaining the production environment.
I have had a great group of mentors, leaders and support staff who have got me to where I am today. The great thing about the graduate recruitment programme is that it focuses on the whole individual and not just the professional aspect.
