The sustainable management of the natural environment is vital to the future prosperity of our producer countries.

We therefore strive to steward and protect the environment so that it can continue to support healthy ecosystems and thriving communities long after our operations cease.

We have a five-year environmental goal that commits us to environmental best practice, through reducing our reliance on increasingly scarce resources and focusing on biodiversity stewardship, with a commitment to ‘no net loss of significant biodiversity’.

In delivering on this goal, in 2015 we adopted our newly updated Environmental Standards, which cover five areas: water; energy/climate change; lifecycle planning and management; hazardous substances, waste and emissions; and biodiversity.

For more information on our environmental strategy and programmes, and performance, see our 2015 Report to Society.
