At De Beers, we are proud that the great majority of the people in our workforce are drawn from the countries in which we work and the communities around our operations.

Employing and developing the skills and talents of local people are among the most important ways we contribute to the long-term development of the countries where we operate. We focus our efforts on four areas: employing the best people; developing the right leaders; providing an energising work environment; and developing excellence in our human resources systems.

Our approach extends beyond simply improving individuals’ professional capabilities. Education and training are also vital elements in helping us to meet our highest priority – zero harm in all our operations. In 2015, we were humbled to complete another year without a fatality in our operations, as well as continuing to improve our overall health and safety performance.

We strive to make best practice in health and safety second nature for every employee, supported by committed leadership, clear goals and excellent communication.  Our approach is delivered through practical standards and robust systems.

For more information on our employee strategy and initiatives, see our 2015 Report to Society.
