A multi-sector partnership for sanitisers

Through a partnership spanning government, academia and business, we’ve contributed to the manufacture of 20,000 liters of hand sanitiser within Botswana.

The partnership was formed between the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI), Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) and De Beers Group for the large-scale manufacture of sanitisers.

Through the partnership, De Beers Group and the Government of Botswana provided more than $40,000 in funding each; while BITRI utilized its research scientists to facilitate the production, and BIUST leveraged the skills of its post graduate students.

Manufactured over four weeks, the 20,000 litres of sanitiser will contribute to the critical supplies needed by Botswana in the fight against the pandemic and will be distributed by the COVID-19 Command Task Team to various communities across the country.
