The World Economic Forum - Partnering Against Corruption Initiative (PACI) was formally launched in January 2004, by CEOs from the Engineering & Construction, Energy, and Metals and Mining industries, in an effort to combat global corruption.
PACI is a business driven global initiative with commitment from the top, with a mission to develop multi-industry principles and practices that will result in a competitive level playing field, based on integrity, fairness and ethical conduct.
PACI places the private sector in a unique position to guide governments' and international organisations' strategies and policies on anti-corruption and has built strong relationships with the key players and institutions from the global anti-corruption landscape.
In addition, De Beers sees the role of civil society as an essential element in overcoming bribery and corruption and has worked closely with Transparency International through membership of and association with PACI and EITI.
Transparency International has also been a regular attendee of De Beers' Diamond Dialogues, which take place four times each year and seek to discuss themes of development and good governance across various sectors.
In December 2007, De Beers participated in a joint G8 / EITI international conference in Berlin. The conference, which included representatives from governments, civil society and the private sector discussed ways of further improving cross-sector co-operation to combat corruption and promote transparency across all sectors of society.
PACI's 2009 Highlighting Achievers survey was submitted in October 2009 and demonstrated De Beers' anti-corruption leadership. The survey helped De Beers self-assess progress made in implementing the anti-corruption framework and benchmark its performance against peers.
