Although much of the Diamond Trading Company’s (DTC) sorting process is carried out by hand using traditional handloupes and headloupes, the DTC has used technology to assist with the sorting of smaller diamonds since 1972.
The DTC’s Research and Development centre in the United Kingdom works closely with the company’s sorting and valuing offices to produce machines that provide unparalleled operating efficiency, flexibility and consistency for the DTC’s diamond sorting process.
New technologies
The DTC’s Research and Development division continues to develop increasingly sophisticated technology to make the sorting process quicker and more efficient.
The sorting technology developed over the last decade provides a strong competitive advantage for the DTC and its producing partners in terms of its unique, cost effective capability to accurately sort large volumes of diamonds into categories of size, shape, colour, and clarity.
The best examples of this new technology can be found in DTC Botswana’s new building in Gaborone.
The building incorporates state-of-the-art sorting equipment designed and manufactured by the DTC, making DTC Botswana the largest and most sophisticated rough diamond sorting and valuing operation in the world.
