One of the key activities of the Diamond Trading Company (DTC) is the sorting and valuation of rough diamonds.
Diamonds are sorted as they arrive from the mines into different categories depending upon size, shape, quality and colour.
The DTC currently sorts diamonds into around 12,000 categories.
The sorting process ensures the correct valuation of all production. It also ensures that a consistent supply of diamonds can be delivered to the DTC’s clients, who are among the world’s greatest diamantaires.
Consistency across the four diamond sorting offices is ensured by the use of samples that guide decision making on shape, quality and colour.
The four sorting offices are DTC Botswana in Gaborone, Botswana; DTC South Africa in Kimberley, South Africa; Namibia DTC in Windhoek, Namibia; and DTC UK in London, United Kingdom.
