Now discover this once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into the rich and storied history of this most precious of gems.

This award-winning exhibition traces the amazing transformation of diamonds, starting with their geologic origins deep within the earth to the fascinating way that volcanoes bring them to the earth’s surface. Explore the history of mining and the special story of the Canadian mining industry, as well as the marketing and distribution of the present-day diamond trade. Learn how raw diamonds are cut into brilliant gems, and then graded according to the “Four C’s” of cut, carat, colour and clarity. Discover the intriguing uses of diamonds in science, technology and industry, from drilling to electronics, medicine to optics.

Journey through diamond legend and lore, and explore the cultural significance of diamonds in art and literature. The spectacular walk-in Gem Vault houses a stunning array of jewels from around the world, including Princess Mathilde's 200-carat diamond corsage ornament containing over 2,600 diamonds. The Aurora Butterfly of Peace collection consists of over 240 astounding diamonds and showcases the range of diamond colours in nature.
