The Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Eric Molale has been appointed as the new Debswana Board Chairman. He takes over from Dr Akolang Tombale who has been relieved from serving on the Debswana Board following his re-assignment to the Diamond Hub.

    The Fairness Hearing in the settlement of the US Diamond Class Actions court cases took place in the United States Federal District Court in New Jersey yesterday. De Beers is pleased that, at the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Chesler, presiding, indicated that a written decision approving the settlement would be forthcoming, and brought the proceedings to a close.

  • Botswana diamond discoverer, Dr Gavin Lamont, dies

    Dr Gavin Lamont, the geologist who led the decadelong search for the diamond mines of Botswana, died this weekend in Somerset West. His leadership, tenacity and deep knowledge of geology and of nature contributed to the discovery of the Orapa and Letlhakane diamond mines in 1967 and of the worlds richest mine, Jwaneng, in March 1971.

    De Beers Consolidated Mines MD, David Noko, confirmed this afternoon that De Beers expected to resume production at most of its six mines today. This follows an agreement between Eskom and the Chamber of Mines to restore power supplies to 80% of total requirements, increasing to 90% of supply by the end of business on Thursday.
