The Report to Stakeholders includes statements by first party, second party, third party and fourth party assurance providers and specialist reviewers. Together, these statements address all of the relevant and material issues identified by our stakeholders and described throughout the report. These statements also cover each of the different elements of the GRI framework we have applied. Statistics presented in this report have not been second or third party verified.
The Maplecroft statement relates to narrative content, including the economics, ethics, employees, communities and environment sections of this report. Maplecroft has worked with the family of companies on the development and implementation of the DTC Diamond Best Practice Principles, the Principles project and on the production of this report. The statement provided by Maplecroft is not intended as independent verification of our performance data. It is presented as a testament of work undertaken and as a framework for subsequent independent assurance provision.
Our portfolio of independent third party statements addresses issues unique to the diamond industry and the geographies in which we operate. Statements are provided by:
SGS – On the DTC Diamond Best Practice Principles (BPP). Implementation of the BPPs has been third party verified by SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) as part of the BPP Assurance Programme. The BPP Assurance Programme is our own audit framework covering economic, social and environmental criteria. It applies to our own operations, to DTC Sightholders and applicable third parties.
URS – On the quality of third party verification work completed by SGS. Fourth party assurance undertaken by URS enables us to assess SGS compliance with the BPP guidelines and standard operating procedures. It also enables us to check the efficiency of procedures put in place to avoid conflicts of interest between the DTC and De Beers, Sightholders and the third party verifier.
Government Diamond Office – On our conformance with the Kimberley Process. This statement relates to our DTC operations. It focuses on the reconciliation of diamond stocks and records of diamond shipments between DTC and the UK Government Diamond Office. Particular attention was given to the existence of certified Kimberley Process Certificates for each diamond shipment. Certificates provide evidence that diamond shipments are conflict free.
Health Monitor – On our HIV/AIDS audits recently undertaken in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. The report was compiled by Health Monitor and adheres strictly to the GRI Reporting Guidance on HIV/AIDS. Health Monitor has provided an independent statement on the methodology used during this work.
AICC – On the extent to which this report addresses relevant and material stakeholder concerns. The African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC) was also asked to make recommendations on how we might improve our reporting and meet our ongoing commitment to disclosure and transparency. AICC also sought to assess the extent to which the report applied the GRI G3 reporting framework.
