Faried Sallie, Managing Director
Faried Sallie is the Managing Director of Diamond Trading Company South Africa, which is responsible for the sorting and valuing of all of De Beers Consolidated Mine’s production, local sales and marketing activities.
He joined De Beers as a software engineer and project manager at the Research division of DebTech in 1994.
After having joined the DebTech technology management team, he was then appointed as PA to the Chairman of De Beers, Nicky Oppenheimer, in 2003 and Secretary to the De Beers sa Executive Committee in 2004, a position he held until the end of 2006.
In 2005, Faried was seconded to De Beers Corporate Strategy in London, and during this time, he spent a considerable amount of time with the DTC’s Rough Diamond Division, Pricing and Supply Chain and Sales functions.
He was appointed as a director of De Beers Botswana and De Beers Prospecting Botswana in 2006, and Managing Director of Diamond Trading Company South Africa in June 2007.
Faried graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a BSc in Electrical Engineering in 1994 and completed an MBA at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria in 2003. He is married to Nikki and they have two children.
